The Django Express

The MRC has just completed one of the largest layouts it has ever built, the “Django Express”, for The Goldrush – a pop-up restaurant in the heart of Vauxhall.

The 75′ / 25m long G scale railway runs the length of the venue, with a US ‘pioneer’ loco running up and down all night, creating sound and visual atmosphere for Wild West themed dining experience.

So imagine it’s 1849 and The Gold Rush fever is exploding after news of a new eatery in a secret cobbled location somewhere in the South-West of town. For those lucky cowboys who find it, the Django Bango mine is an immersive night of music, food and fun.

Located in the heart of Vauxhall, The Yard SE11 has been transformed, setting the scene for the 1849 gold rush with the Django Bango Express running the length of the pop up.

The layout has been built by a handful of members of The MRC, initially at Keen House then transported to the venue for final installation. Because it’s a pop-up, and the venue is still used as a steel works during the week, the layout has to be erected and dismantled weekly, so the layout has been built as if it’s an exhibition layout. What’s more, a section of it is outside so has to be ready for whatever weather the British summer throws at it. Maybe even some rain….  batched baseboard construction

More details of the construction can be found at our Blog, but to see it for yourself, book your seat here whilst you can.
