Inaugural meeting of The MRC

Strange how an organisation collects, acquires and stores hidden treasures, unseen by many and known to a very few....

I asked the MRC's chief librarian for some photos for the web page and this is just a tiny selection of them....

There are some sales(?) photos of crossings by the Union Switch & Signal Co of Swissvale PA (do they still exist?), General Electric photos of the lighting at East Dallas dated 5-6-27 which I assume is May 6th 1927. There are photos of the construction of the goods line in Copenhagen Fields section of the cutting north of Kings Cross which I think even our revered Chairman may not have seen before*. Please note that the main Kings Cross photos are typically 300-500 Kb, a smaller version is provided.

Photos of the 'Marriott System of Reinforced Concrete Construction' include shots of the slueing (sic) of a bridge, a rather elegant gatehouse, signal and telegraph poles - all, of course, in concrete. One of the photos shows a display of concrete items and appears to have been taken at a trade show or similar.

Next come the photos of the construction of the Club in 1959 and 1960.

Some photos that come from the Club's own archive of its past exhibitions, etc include photos of GP Keen who for many years was the President of the Club, some interesting views of one of our shows in the late 1940's (by the style of dress).

Finally, last but very importantly are the records of the inaugural meeting of The MRC in 1910. Ironic to think that two of the founders lived just up the road from where I used to live in Watford! These were thought to have been lost along with many of our earlier records when the house storing them was bombed during the last war.
