The Model Railway Club Portfolio

In the last few years the MRC has been involved in a number of very interesting projects:

Microsoft Launch of TrainSim

Microsoft launched their new Train Simulation package (www.trainsim.co.uk) at Keen House in July 2001. Great fun and very busy all afternoon! We provided some of our layouts so the the guests could compare the simulation with the 'real' thing.

Filming for BBC TV Children's Drama - Oscar and Charlie

We were asked with only two weeks notice to supply a layout and a 'sales stand' to give the impression of a model railway exhibition and also to provide the vital prop of a Hornby Flying Scotsman for two actors to haggle over!

The filming took place at The Museum of Childhood, in Bethnal Green.

Bernard Butler video shoot for the single 'Not Alone'

Not Alone video

Built a 16' oval of track in a weekend for a video shoot on the Monday. Bernard said that he enjoyed this shoot more than most because he had something to watch. And after one shot where he was lying down in front of the track, trains passing just in front, he said that it took him right back to his childhood when he used to do just the same!

Sony Video Week

Took two of the Copenhagen Fields boards up to a country house near Bagshot, Surrey for a week long presentation by Sony to the directors of the major UK retailers to demonstrate the latest video technology. The layout was a 'target' for them to zoom in to with the latest video cameras.

Hilton Hotels

Holton Hotels

The Sales team of Hilton International used Keen House for a fun and relaxed day to make a series of presentations to their new vice-president. These used a railway theme with each group being introduced by an appropriate train and . Afterwards, driving classes were given and the girls were definitely better than the boys!

Imaginaria

Imaginaria

A joint project of conceptual on-line art between two artists Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie to build a visual model of an imaginary island called Mush created interactively over the web by anyone who cared to join in. We were asked for our advice and to give a short talk about modelling, research and techniques at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. Their site is www.somewhere.org.uk

Dreamworks III

Dreamworks III

The third and most ambitious of the Dreamworks projects took over the St Pancras Hotel in Euston, London to stage performance art on behalf of local charities. The Club was approached by one of the team about the loan of a model railway. Since we did not have anything to match their needs, we built one over a weekend. Tableau, art, gothic horror, dance, fairytale bands it was all there, and a model railway!

100 Years of Railway Modelling

In partnership with Warners Group, publishers of British Railway Modelling, we ran a large exhibition at Wembley Conference Centre in March 2000. Over a weekend 8100 people attended and such was the success of this show that it has been repeated annually at Alexandra Palace ever since.

Stealing Trains Stealing Trains

Stealing Trains

Re-enaction of the Great Train Robbery at The MRC - for UK TV by Tanya Freedman. This should be shown in the Spring 2001. In the spirit of the gricers (enthusiasts/nutters of the time), we present our photos in very grainy B/W! In the team photo, they are from the right: Darren, Peter, Tanya and her assistant.
