This would be an ideal present to go with a trainset. With the track fixed to a solid baseboard, trains will operate more reliably.
Constructed from good quality plywood and 2″ x 1″ softwood framing to provide strength and prevent warping, the baseboard is in two sections as shown so it can be split for transport and storage, for example, under a bed. When erected it is just under 6′ x 4′ in size – the classic size for a starter trainset / layout. Comes with detachable softwood legs to make boards about 2′ 6″ off the floor, and a hole in the middle for a child to operate from / access the far corner. Baseboard joins include dowels for accurate track alignment; boards and legs held together with bolts.
Track shown is fixed to the boards, the remaining curved track is included but is loose to enable the boards to be split.
Track layout is two continuous loops (2nd and 3rd radius Hornby) with a 1st radius partial inner circuit to a bay platform, and potentially to a loco shed. There would be space to put a 4th track around the ‘bottom’ of the layout round to another siding on the ‘right’.
There is basic wiring to the track, but no controller or stock included. Built for a child who really enjoyed operating this layout, but wanted to move onto other things before building scenery. Thus there is a blank canvass for the new owner.
