Library Additions – January 2016

Our library has one of the widest and largest ranges of books of books for railway modellers – covering prototype railways and modelling. The following list of books has recently been added. Keen House will be closed for the holidays after our festive meeting on Thursday 17th December 2015, and our next meeting will be on Thursday 7th January 2016.

4 x 1 Layout Challenge

In 2015, MRC members were set the challenge of building a small layout for exhibition at our December open day. The number of entries was gently been whittled down for a combination of reasons but four layouts made it to Keen House on Sunday 6th December, in no particular order:

• “Manatee Bay” – HO US outline – Eddie Thompson
• “Old Head  – County Mayo” – Irish ‘broad’ gauge  – Nestor Middleton
• “Newton Peverill” – British N gauge – Mike Lloyd
• “Narrow Gorge” – British OOn3 – Tom Cunnington

“Manatee Bay” was judged to be the layout which had most closely achieved the criteria set out below, and follow the links to read more about the four very different layouts. London Festival of Railway Modelling 2016

The London Festival of Railway Modelling is the capital’s premier exhibition, held every March at the fabulous Alexandra Palace in North London.   The next show is on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2016, and we’re delighted to confirm that the following layouts, representing a wide range of scales and prototypes, have accepted our invitation to attend. …read more.

MRC Open Thurs 6th August as usual despite Tube strike

Keen House will be open as normal despite the London Tube Strike this Thursday – and we’ll be open a little earlier than usual from 6pm if you wouild like to avoid the worst of the rush.  

A number of buses stop close by, and rail services in an out of King’s Cross and St Pancras (including Thameslink) are working normally.  Note that parking on the streets around Keen House is free after 6:30pm, and there is a Santander cycle hire docking station outside.

The demonstration on building and painting stone buildings by Eric Sainte will start at about 7.15pm.
