Tracing its heritage back to 1835, Railway Gazette has long been recognised as the leading provider of news, analysis and intelligence for the international railway industry, with a portfolio of print and digital and print titles that are read by railway operators, regulatory authorities and suppliers in more than 140 countries around the world.

With a degree in transport planning and business administration, Chris Jackson joined the editorial team at the flagship Railway Gazette International in 1982. He became Deputy Editor in 1991 and Editor in 2006, as well as working for group titles Developing Railways, Metro Report and Rail Business Intelligence. During his career, he has visited around 50 countries to investigate railway developments and report on technology, research and policy issues.

In this ‘semi-autobiographical’ presentation, Chris reflects on how the world’s rail sector has evolved over the course of his career, looking at the varied places that his work has taken him, and the trains he has ridden both on and off duty.
