This article was first published in Bulletin 423 – available to download in the members’ section of the website. The observant amongst you will have noticed that there are many shops, factories and vehicles on Copenhagen Fields, some of which carry names. Quite a few of you will realise that many of these names have …read more.

A3 live steam – painting and lining

Continuing the story, I have taken to lining out the backend of the A3. Not quite to 2mm standards, but good enough for starters. The lining out around the cab and firebox has progressed quite quickly by using an ‘easi-LINER’ pen. These are tube capillary flow-type pens that take straight gloss enamel paints. In sizes 0.25, …read more.

A3 Progress – Cab

The A3 has made good progress in the cab and firebox region. The former is 3/16” shorter and the latter 3/16” wider on both sides. She now has the ‘sit’ of an A3. I will be experimenting with reinstating the lining on the temporarily touched-in paint job. The engine will get a phased repaint as …read more.

A3 Rolling Road – Big modelling continued

I haven’t been modelling, as such, but learning how to manage the A3. To do this I made up a rolling road from laser cut components so that all the subtleties of fire and water management can be achieved with the convenience of an engine running on the spot. The engine prefers quite small coal …read more.

Copenhagen Fields: Adding the Midland Railway Roundhouse

A prominent landmark in Kings Cross GY was the roundhouse, originally made for the Midland Railway. This was demolished in 1931, but it has always been in the plan to include it on the layout. It would sit behind the ‘elbow’ on York Way where there is quite an awkward patch of ground. There was …read more.

Copenhagen Fields Update March 2019

We had a good show at Basingstoke, although our sanity was sorely tried by a closeby O gauge diesel depot with loud DCC sound that closely mimicked purgatory. Our re-wire was 100% successful, so that’ll be good for another 35 years: this is entirely down to the hard work and clear thinking of Rob Stewart. …read more.

Electrical surgery for Copenhagen Fields

Whilst there was a wedding and some footy on TV, our crack crew of electricians were at Keen House, continuing the rewiring of the layout.   The lines are now all working correctly and the new loop on the Down Main is live and running (track will need a bit of fettling). The end of the …read more.

Mons Meg

After a month in the paint shops we now have an ex-works engine, called “Mons Meg”.   This engine was named after the medieval cannon resident in Edinburgh Castle and the engine, when new, visited King’s Cross a few times – it should look at home on Copenhagen Fields.   There are a few …read more.

We have had an incredibly productive day today with both new fast line loops completed …read more.
